Rams waive WR DeSean Jackson after failing to trade him

The Rams granted DeSean Jackson’s request to seek a trade last week, allowing him to explore other opportunities after failing to carve out a meaningful role in Los Angeles. After finding no suitors before Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Rams opted to waive the veteran receiver.

Jackson finishes his Rams tenure with just 100 snaps played and eight receptions for 221 yards and one touchdown. He showed that he still has plenty of speed as a downfield threat, but the Rams simply had trouble finding opportunities for him to contribute on offense.

They signed him this offseason to a one-year, $4.5 million contract, which was heavy on incentives. The Rams will save money by parting ways with Jackson, but they likely would’ve rather had him stick around and operate as a situational deep threat behind Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson.

He bid farewell to the Rams with an Instagram post Tuesday before officially being released, thanking them for the opportunity.

Jackson, 34, will now look for a new opportunity with another NFL team. He’s as healthy as he’s been in any of the last three years so he can certainly still help someone in the second half of the season and potentially into the postseason.
