Rams waive OT Darrell Williams after adding two tackles in draft

It’s only been a few days since the 2019 NFL draft ended but the Los Angeles Rams have already begun tweaking their roster. After adding two offensive linemen in the draft and a few others as undrafted free agents, the Rams waived tackle Darrell Williams.

He was signed to the team’s practice squad in September before being added to the 90-man roster on a futures contract in February. He wasn’t expected to contribute much in 2019 and had an uphill battle to make the roster with players ahead of him.

Williams has spent time with the Rams and 49ers in his career, most of which came in San Francisco. The 49ers signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017 before cutting him in September. He was added to the practice squad that season and eventually got promoted to the active roster. He suited up for seven games as a rookie.

Bobby Evans and David Edwards are the front-runners to be the No. 3 tackle on the roster with the other potentially being a backup guard, if not a starter. With the depth growing, Los Angeles didn’t feel Williams added much.
