Rams trade up to No. 97, select OL Bobby Evans in 3rd round

The Los Angeles Rams moved down three times before making their first pick, and now they’ve traded up twice. At the end of the third round, the Rams moved from No. 101 to 97, striking a deal with the Patriots.

They sent New England the 101st overall pick, as well as No. 133 in the fourth round, getting Nos. 97 and 162 in return. With the 97th pick, the Rams selected offensive lineman Bobby Evans from Oklahoma.

Evans could very well be the Rams’ future left tackle after Andrew Whitworth retires. He reportedly visited the Rams in the pre-draft process and it seems O-line coach Aaron Kromer liked what he saw.

Evans played three years at Oklahoma, starting at right tackle as a freshman and sophomore. Last season, he moved to left tackle, replacing Orlando Brown.

Given his experience at tackle, it looks like his best fit is outside in the NFL rather than moving inside to guard. If the Rams feel strongly about Joseph Noteboom at left guard, it’s highly likely Evans will stay at tackle and learn from Whitworth for a year.
