Rams trade up to No. 70, select RB Darrell Henderson

After moving down three times in the first two rounds, the Los Angeles Rams actually moved up in the third round. They traded up from No. 94, sending the Buccaneers that selection and the 99th overall pick for No. 70.

With the 70th overall pick, the Rams selected running back Darrell Henderson out of Memphis.

Henderson visited the Rams before the draft and was viewed as a potential target for them on Day 2. He’s the most explosive running back in the draft, but it’s still a surprising pick, to say the least.

Todd Gurley is the highest-paid running back in the league at $14.4 million per year and is signed through 2023. Henderson has excellent speed and runs hard, making him a potentially great complement to Gurley.

Last season at Memphis, Henderson rushed for 1,909 yards on only 214 carries, averaging a ridiculous 8.9 yards per attempt. In his collegiate career, he sported an average of 8.2 yards per carry.

There’s no denying his talent, but there will be increased questions about Gurley’s knee, which has become a major concern among Rams fans.
