Rams trade CB Aqib Talib and 5th-round pick to Dolphins

The Los Angeles Rams are very thin on salary cap space, but they made a move before today’s trade deadline to free up some money. According to Adam Schefter, the Rams are trading Aqib Talib and a fifth-round pick to the Dolphins for a future draft pick.

Vincent Bonsignore of The Athletic confirmed the details of the trade.

This is nothing more than a salary dump for the Rams. By trading him, the Rams save $4.2 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.

Talib is on injured reserve right now with a rib injury and is a free agent after this season. He’s eligible to return in Week 15, but for a team like the 0-7 Dolphins, he doesn’t provide much value. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he never plays for Miami.

This season, Talib has 14 tackles and two passes defensed in five games. He really struggled in coverage, too, and Troy Hill has been an upgrade in his spot.

By clearing $4.2 million off the cap, the Rams now have about $9.8 million available in 2019.

UPDATE: According to Albert Breer, the pick going back to Los Angeles is a future seventh-rounder.
