Sean McVay said on Monday that the Los Angeles Rams would only look for offensive line help as a means for depth, not a starter. That may not have been the whole truth as the team acquired offensive lineman Austin Corbett from the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday.
The team announced the move, as the Rams will send the Browns a draft pick in 2021.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, it’s a fifth-rounder.
Corbett was the No. 33 overall pick in 2018 and has appeared in just three games as a backup this season. The center had a high ceiling upon entering the NFL, but he hasn’t been able to get on the field.
The Rams currently have Brian Allen starting at center, but Corbett will likely compete with him there. Allen, a second-year player, has been a liability in pass protection and a disappointment as a first-year starter.
