Rams, Todd Gurley came up with ‘really specific’ offseason training plan

The Los Angeles Rams kicked off organized team activities on Monday, beginning the next phase of the offseason program. The majority of players were in attendance, but Todd Gurley was among those who were not.

That’s not entirely surprising, given his lingering knee injury and the questions surrounding it. He’ll still be training while he’s away from the team and Sean McVay has been in communication with the All-Pro running back, so his absence isn’t a surprise to the team.

In fact, the Rams and Gurley came up with a training plan for the offseason, which involves Gurley working out with the team, as well as his own trainers.

“We’ve had a plan that’s been really specific with him. I think it’s something that we all sat down and felt really good about. He’s been a guy that’s really done a good job of being able to use some of the things we have here, but also, he’s got some trainers that he’s really comfortable with that he works with from time to time,” McVay told reporters Monday. “As long as we’re all on the same page, we feel good about that, and most importantly, Todd feels good. He’s got a lot of experience and he’s staying up to date with everything that’s going on, but that’s kind of where we’re at with him right now.”

McVay didn’t say when Gurley would be back with the team, but if he doesn’t attend OTAs, it’s presumed he’ll be there for mandatory minicamp in June. His exact health status isn’t known, but McVay has said he’s feeling good, indicating the knee injury isn’t an issue.

Regardless of what McVay and the Rams’ front office says, questions will continue about Gurley’s knee until he gets back on the field.
