Rams slide in post-draft power rankings on concerns about Gurley’s knee

With one of the best rosters in the NFL, it was always going to be difficult for the Los Angeles Rams to get significantly better in the draft. They didn’t have any must-fill holes nor any glaring weaknesses thanks to savvy moves in free agency, yet the Rams still managed to add players who could contribute right away.

At the very least, they got slightly better for 2019 and improved significantly for 2020, but USA TODAY’s Nate Davis still isn’t sold on Todd Gurley’s knee being fully healthy after the Rams drafted Darrell Henderson in Round 3.

Davis bumped the Rams down two spots in his latest power rankings following the draft, dropping them from No. 5 to 7.

Until there’s between-the-lines clarity on RB Todd Gurley’s knee and ability to produce, it will be worth wondering how far NFC champs can go.

It’s fair to be concerned about Gurley’s knee moving forward, especially after the Rams spent a top-70 pick on a running back, trading up 24 spots to select Henderson. However, is that worry enough to put the Eagles, Vikings and Colts all ahead of the Rams?

They still have Jared Goff, Aaron Donald, Brandin Cooks and a secondary that’s loaded with playmakers such as Marcus Peters and Eric Weddle. And it’s not as if Gurley will miss the season. Sean McVay has maintained that he’ll remain a big part of the offense until he’s told otherwise.

It’d be a surprise to see the Rams finish as only the seventh-best team in the league next season.
