Rams sign 4 practice squad players to futures contracts

The Los Angeles Rams have begun the roster-management process since the 2018 season has now officially ended. The team announced it has signed four players to reserve/futures contracts for 2019.

Defensive back Donte Deayon, linebacker Travin Howard, offensive tackle Kyle Murphy and wide receiver Austin Proehl were signed to deals after spending time on the Rams’ practice squad to end the season.

Howard was the only 2018 draft pick by Los Angeles, taking him in the seventh round. He’s a hybrid safety-linebacker who essentially redshirted his first season in the NFL.

Proehl is the son of former Rams wide receiver Ricky Proehl, who won a Super Bowl with the team after catching the game-winning touchdown in the 1999 NFC championship game. Deayon was an undrafted free agent in 2016, signing with the Giants. He’s a smaller cornerback at 5-9, 159 pounds, but he’s played eight games in the NFL and has three passes defensed.

Murphy was a sixth-round pick in 2016 of the Packers, and has played six games, starting three in 2017.
