Rams select TE Brycen Hopkins with 136th overall pick in the draft

After trading down 10 spots from No. 126 in the fourth round, the Los Angeles Rams selected tight end Brycen Hopkins with the 136th overall pick. Hopkins hails from Purdue, playing four seasons for the Boilermakers.

In four years at Purdue, Hopkins caught 130 passes for 1,945 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s a good athlete with excellent size, running a 4.66 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds.

Hopkins joins Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett at tight end, as well as backup Johnny Mundt. It’s unlikely that he’ll contribute early on, but he does have potential.

The Rams are already deep at tight end with Higbee and Everett, but Everett will be a free agent in 2021, so Hopkins could be a replacement in Year 2.

This pick continues the Rams’ trend of bolstering the offense, joining running back Cam Akers and wide receiver Van Jefferson as draftees this year.
