Rams re-signing Andrew Whitworth to 3-year extension

The Los Angeles Rams won’t need to find a new starter at left tackle for the 2020 season. According to his agency, Sports Trust Advisors, they’re re-signing Andrew Whitworth to a three-year deal, keeping him in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future.

Whitworth had expressed a desire to return to the Rams all offseason after he said he planned to return to the field in 2020. Despite being 38 years old and the oldest offensive lineman in the NFL, Whitworth still feels he has enough to offer as a quality starter.

This is great news for the Rams, who didn’t have a clear replacement at left tackle if Whitworth were to either retire or sign with another team. He struggled early on in 2019, but quickly turned it around and fixed some of his pass-protection issues as the year went on.

One thing that plagued Whitworth last season was the number of times he was flagged. He was called for 14 penalties, tied for third-most of any lineman. He did only allow one sack, though, which is great sign.
