Rams’ RB Todd Gurley clocks in at 21 mph at practice

It has been a long and confusing journey with Los Angeles Rams’ running back Todd Gurley and his knee injury.  Gurley originally tore his ACL while at UGA in November of 2014. When/if/how he re-injured it in the NFL still remains a mystery.

Gurley got limited touches towards the end of last season, giving a lot of the workload to former Rams RB C.J. Anderson, come playoff time. Head coach Sean McVay gave Gurley just 4 carries in the NFC Championship and 10 in the Super Bowl.

Gurley has stressed that his knee feels good and showed that this pre-season.  In practice this past week Gurley hit 21 mph based on a GPS tracker, showing signs of optimism that his knee is back to full health.

Gurley’s former top speed in 2017 was clocked at 21.23 mph, as he clocked in 21 mph in games multiple times that year.  Last season he was hitting speeds of 20 mph, according to Next Gen Stats, and ended up the fastest ball carrier in Super Bowl LIII (19.78 mph).

“When you look at the way that we monitor these guys with the GPS and the tracking system, he’s hitting speeds that are as high as he’s ever hit before. So you can see the guy’s strong,” said McVay. “He hit 21 miles an hour running yesterday at practice and I think he’s feeling good.”

Things are looking up for Gurley and the Rams as they will look to stay healthy and compete for a Super Bowl again come September.=
