Rams quickly update unofficial depth chart with Brian Allen as starting center

It only took three hours for the Los Angeles Rams to update their first unofficial depth chart, and it came with a major change. After Austin Corbett was initially listed as the starting center with Bobby Evans at right guard, the interior offensive line got a shakeup on the depth chart.

Brian Allen is now penciled in as the starting center, which bumps Corbett over to right guard.

That means Evans drops down to the backup right guard, with Coleman Shelton moving up to the second team at center.

The depth chart is unofficial, but this update paired with the shuffling of the offensive line Monday makes for a very interesting situation at center. Allen is getting first-team reps, reigniting the competition with Corbett. That was unexpected after it seemed Corbett had a firm grip on the job throughout the spring and training camp.

What Sean McVay hasn’t specified is whether the change is due to lackluster play from Corbett or Evans. If Evans is struggling at guard, Corbett has experience there and played well in that spot last season. But if it’s Corbett having trouble at center, that’s a different story.

McVay has been impressed with Allen’s play, which is encouraging. But he’ll need to play at a higher level than he did in 2019 when he was the starter.

In other depth chart news, Xavier Jones and Jake Funk are now listed as co-backups to Darrell Henderson Jr., which is another update from the original depth chart. The same goes for DeSean Jackson and Van Jefferson at WR3, being listed as co-starters.
