The Los Angeles Rams are undoubtedly set up for long-term success with players such as Jared Goff, Aaron Donald, Brandin Cooks and Todd Gurley under contract for the foreseeable future. The core of the team is as good as any in the NFL, as evidenced by the Rams’ Super Bowl run last season.
At the center of it all is Goff, who’s entering his fourth season as a pro. He’s improved in each of the last two years and has made the Pro Bowl twice, looking like a true franchise quarterback in 2018. Incredibly, he’s only 24 years old and still has plenty of room to grow.
Pro Football Focus released its annual list of the top 25 players under the age of 25 and Goff was among those selected.
After a disappointing rookie year with Jeff Fisher at the helm, the former No. 1 overall pick has blossomed in the subsequent years with Sean McVay. His 2018 season was his best year to date; he ended the regular season with an 85.5 overall grade, and he finished eighth in the NFL in clean-pocket big-time throw percentage (5.45%) on the year.
Goff did struggle at the end of the 2018 season, throwing only seven touchdown passes and eight interceptions in his final eight games (including the playoffs). He looked shaky in the Super Bowl and had trouble against every team not named the 49ers after the Rams’ Week 11 bye, raising some concerns about his development.
But again, he’s just 24 and has seen his stock rise year over year. With another offseason to work alongside Sean McVay, Goff should continue to improve in 2019.
