In a game where players were going down with injuries on seemingly every other play, it set off some alarms when the Rams pulled Andrew Whitworth from Saturday’s win late in the fourth quarter. Fans wondered if he had suffered an injury of his own, or if the team was simply being smart with him by taking him out of harm’s way.
Fortunately, it was the latter. Sean McVay said on Sunday that the Rams were happy with the way he played, and with the score being 30-13, they felt comfortable resting him for the final six snaps of the game.
“Andrew Whitworth made it through the game,” McVay said. “When we went up 30-13, I thought he did a great job competing throughout and wanted to make sure we were smart with him, but we’re going to rest him and progress as needed throughout the course of the week but do expect him to be ready to go.”
That sound you hear is the collective sigh of relief that Rams fans everywhere took. Whitworth was an absolute stud for Los Angeles in his first game back since Week 10, especially as a run blocker on the left side.
He made a big difference for the Rams in place of Joe Noteboom, who also played well during Whitworth’s absence. Having him back for next week against an aggressive Packers defense with terrific edge rushers will be big.
