Rams plan to start rookie David Edwards at LG in place of injured Noteboom

Jamil Demby stepped in at left guard after Joseph Noteboom tore his ACL and MCL last week against the 49ers, but he won’t remain the replacement at that spot. Sean McVay said at his press conference on Wednesday that the Rams will start rookie David Edwards at left guard on Sunday against the Falcons.

“It’s looking like we’ll see David Edwards at that guard spot,” McVay said. “We’re very confident that he’ll be able to step in and do a nice job.”

Demby has really struggled this season when replacing Noteboom and Austin Blythe at both guard spots. Edwards played exclusively at tackle in college at Wisconsin, but he lined up at guard during the preseason and in training camp.

The Rams are known for cross-training their offensive linemen, largely thanks to O-line coach Aaron Kromer, and this is a big reason why. It’s important to have versatile players who can play multiple positions, which Edwards will put on display this weekend.
