April 07--The Rams will open their preseason schedule against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 5 p.m. PDT, in a nationally televised game on ESPN, the NFL announced Thursday.
It will be the Rams' first game in Southern California in more than two decades.
"We are excited to open the preseason on a national stage here in Los Angeles," Rams Coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement. "This is a historic year and we can't wait to get in front of the fans for the first time at the Coliseum."
The matchup is a natural on several levels. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was instrumental in helping the Rams move from St. Louis to Los Angeles. The Rams will conduct off-season workouts in Oxnard -- where the Cowboys hold training camp -- before moving to UC Irvine. Last year, the Rams and Cowboys held several joint practices at the Oxnard site.
The Rams will play the Kansas City Chiefs in the second week of the preseason on a date yet to be finalized between Aug. 18 and 22.
The final two games are on the road against the Denver Broncos (April 25-28) and against the Minnesota Vikings (Sept. 1-2).
The game against the Vikings will be at the new US Bank Stadium.
The regular-season schedule is expected to be announced in a few weeks.
