As 17-point favorites, the Los Angeles Rams were fully expected to blow out the New York Jets in Week 15. But the first half went about as poorly as the Rams could’ve hoped, getting absolutely dominated by the 0-13 Jets.
New York jumped out to a 7-0 lead before adding two field goals off of a blocked punt and Jared Goff interception, going up 13-0 in the second quarter. The Jets are known for starting fast – they’ve now scored on eight straight opening possessions – but this game wasn’t expected to go the way it has.
The Rams went into the half trailing 13-3 thanks to a 44-yard field goal by Matt Gay before the break. It nearly marked the first time L.A. has been held scoreless at halftime since Week 14 of the 2016 season.
Nothing was working for the Rams in this one. Jared Goff was getting very little time in the pocket, the ground game was getting stonewalled and special teams was a mess, outside of Gay’s made field goal.
The Rams mustered only 97 total yards compared to 104 for the Jets, and went 0-7 on third down.
The Rams have been a second-half team all year, but they need a huge effort in the final 30 minutes to avoid what would be the biggest upset of the NFL season.
