Rams keep QB Brandon Allen around with futures contract

Sean Mannion is set to become a free agent and with questions surrounding the spot behind Jared Goff on the depth chart, the Los Angeles Rams are keeping their options open. On Thursday, the team announced it has signed quarterback Brandon Allen to a futures contract.

They also signed offensive tackle Darrell Williams to a futures contract, as well. Both players finished the season on the Rams’ practice squad, making them eligible for reserve/futures deals in L.A.

Allen was claimed by the Rams off waivers in 2017 and has stuck around for the past two seasons after being a sixth-round pick of the Jaguars in 2016. He’s shown limited promise in his time with the Rams, but the coaching staff clearly sees some potential in him.

Williams has started one game for the Rams since 2015, which was the season finale in 2017.
