Rams had chance to trade back in 2nd round but chose to stay put

One of the biggest surprises coming out of draft weekend for the Los Angeles Rams is that they only made one trade across the three days. They didn’t have a first-round pick, but with four total in the top 105, it was presumed by many that Les Snead would move around a bit on Day 2.

It turns out he had the chance to move back in the second round, but he decided to stay put. He revealed this bit of info on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday, adding that the one trade the Rams did make went smoothly despite the new virtual draft format.

“We made one trade. There was a possibility to trade back in the second round,” Snead said. “We elected to stay, so with our one trade that we made, it was really, really clean and didn’t have a problem at all, so I think that went smooth.”

Snead didn’t specify which pick they were thinking about moving back from, but the selections were close together at 52 and 57, regardless. It’s a bit surprising that Snead would turn down an offer to move back, given his past history of stockpiling picks, but it’s also a testament to their feelings about Cam Akers and Van Jefferson, who they took in the second round.

The fact that the Rams chose not to move back means they felt great about getting those two players where they did, and didn’t want to risk one or both of them not being available at whichever spot they traded back to.

The only trade the Rams made was trading back from No. 126 to 136 in the fourth round, adding two seventh-rounders in the process.
