Rams form ‘The Alliance’ with 10 other L.A. teams fighting for social justice

The Rams and their players have been active this offseason in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, not only by joining protests, but also highlighting Black-owned business in the Inglewood area for Juneteenth. Now, they’re taking their actions a step further. The Rams announced on Tuesday that they have joined “The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles” with 10 other teams in L.A. as they fight for social justice and combat racism.

According to the release, it’s a “comprehensive five-year commitment to drive investment and impact for social justice through sport.”

The other teams in The ALLIANCE are the Chargers, Clippers, Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, Ducks, Kings, Galaxy, Sparks and LAFC. They will all take action to help end racial inequality and advocate for social justice, per the press release.

“The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles has been forged specifically to create positive change in underserved communities, with an emphasis on Black communities,” said a spokesperson for The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles. “All 11 teams are united in their dedication to this effort and recognize driving change is a long-term commitment. Through sports and social programming, we aim to work in communities to affect structural changes on levels that have a lasting impact.”

One of the goals of the group is to provide opportunities for kids in high poverty neighborhoods to play sports. The ALLIANCE believes that will help “build a pathway to lifelong wellbeing” for kids of color.
