Although the NFL hasn’t yet decided on a clear-cut plan for the offseason due to the ongoing pandemic, organized team activities could begin relatively soon. On Tuesday at the NFL owners’ meetings, the league informed teams that they can begin OTAs on April 19, with Phase 1 kicking things off.
The exact rules and format of those OTAs are still being discussed by the NFL and NFLPA, deciding when it will be safe to begin on-field work and whether things will remain virtual or if in-person meetings will be allowed.
As Tom Pelissero of NFL Network points out, teams with new head coaches won’t have a head start this year as they have in the past.
This means no head start for teams with new head coaches, who normally could’ve started OTAs Monday. But unlike a year ago, some players have already been working out in team facilities, and there’s hope for practices this spring, even if meetings remain virtual indefinitely.

The Rams could use all the time they can get with so many changes being made this offseason. They have a new quarterback in Matthew Stafford, a new defensive coordinator in Raheem Morris, and a new special teams coordinator in Joe DeCamillis. With so many players and coaches leaving Los Angeles this year, there are a lot of new faces in the building.
Getting to meet in-person would be a nice benefit for the Rams as they gear up for the 2021 season.
