Rams awarded two 3rd-round compensatory picks in 2019 NFL Draft

The Los Angeles Rams quickly went from having no picks in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft to having multiple. After trading a third-rounder for Dante Fowler Jr. in October, the Rams were temporarily left with no selections in Round 3.

On Friday, though, the NFL announced teams that were awarded compensatory picks and the Rams received two selections in the third round. Those picks came from letting Sammy Watkins and Trumaine Johnson leave in free agency last offseason.

The Rams were also awarded a seventh-rounder for Cody Davis signing with the Jaguars last year.

Les Snead said at the time of the Fowler trade that the Rams made the deal knowing they’d likely get two third-rounders back in the form of compensatory selections. Not surprisingly, Snead was right.

When the deal was made, it reportedly included the higher of the Rams’ compensatory picks, which is No. 98. That pick will go to Jacksonville, along with a fifth-rounder in 2020.

The Rams now officially have three picks in the first three rounds: No. 31 overall (Round 1), as well as Nos. 94 and 99 overall (Round 3). And with compensatory picks being trade-eligible, this gives the Rams ammo to possibly move up.
