Rams are signing TE Tyler Higbee to 4-year, $31M extension

Just two days after locking up Jared Goff with a four-year extension, the Los Angeles Rams are signing another key player to a new deal. The team announced Thursday that Tyler Higbee has agreed to a four-year extension.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the contract is worth $31 million with incentives potentially raising it to more than $36 million. He also gets $15.5 million in guaranteed money.

The size of the contract is somewhat surprising, considering Higbee shares reps with third-year tight end Gerald Everett. At $7.8 million per year, Higbee is now the ninth-highest paid tight end in the NFL, just behind Trey Burton of the Bears.

Higbee has been a solid player for the Rams since coming into the NFL as a fourth-round pick in 2016. He hasn’t missed a game and provides excellent value in the running game as a blocker. He just doesn’t put up the numbers that you’d expect from one of the 10 highest-paid tight ends.

The Rams have a strong duo at tight end with Higbee and Everett with both players holding roles on offense. Everett is the better receiver of the two, but Higbee is an all-around contributor.
