The Los Angeles Rams have begun trimming their roster down to the league limit of 53 players, which must be done by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. Rather than waiting until the deadline, the Rams decided to cut a large group of players at once.
They quickly went down from 90 players to 72 after announcing the release of 18 players on Friday afternoon.
Here’s the full list of players released by the Rams so far.

None of these cuts are surprising, considering where they stood on the depth chart. It’s not completely over for those 18 players, though. The Rams can sign them to the practice squad (for those eligible) and keep them around for the 2019 season. They’ll have to pass through waivers first, but it’s unlikely any of them will be claimed.
Roberts seems like a good candidate for the practice squad after he impressed this preseason, with the same going for Richards. Kupp was a standout against the Texans on Thursday night and might be worth keeping around.
In all likelihood, though, the Rams will probably save many of their practice squad spots for many of the remaining 19 cuts still to come. Those would appear to be the more difficult decisions, since they weren’t among the first guys released.
