Rams sign Eric Weddle to 2-year deal

The Los Angeles Rams aren’t waiting for free agency to begin to find a starting safety. On Friday, they signed veteran Eric Weddle, who was released by the Ravens this week.

The deal is reportedly worth up to $12.5 million for two years. It includes $5.25 million fully guaranteed, which is a small amount for a safety of his caliber.

The team sent this tweet, hinting at the move before making it official a short while later.

Weddle, 34, spent the last three seasons with the Ravens. In that span, he picked off 10 passes and had 24 passes defended, but he didn’t have a single interception in 2018. Still, he was Pro Football Focus’ 10th-best safety with an overall grade of 80.7.

He fills a void that’s expected to be left by Lamarcus Joyner, who will be a free agent next week. With Weddle coming to L.A., it’s almost certain that the Rams will let Joyner leave.
