Rampant Kerry run in six goals on way to victory over Tyrone in Division 1 semi-final

Five first-half goals in Killarney today ensured the most untypical Kerry v Tyrone clash ever played.

It was akin to an exhibition game such was the Kingdoms superiority and the intensity was all one way as Kerry shredded a porous Tyrone who decided to take Kerry on in the second half when the horse had bolted.

Kerry’s opening goal from a David Clifford penalty was of the soft variety but it was an indicator of things to come.

The Tyrone rearguard and ‘keeper Niall Morgan were in a benign mood. He miscued a clearance in the 15th minute and Gavin White lobbed the keeper from way out and an incredible bit of invention.

Within a minute Seanie O’Shea and David Clifford set up Dara Moynihan for goal number three as Kerry led 3-1 to 0-3 at the water break.

O’Shea and the two Clifford’s were weaving their magic as Kerry were completely dominant with Brian Ó Beaglaoich, Jason Foley and Mike Breen rampant and by half-time the Kingdom led 5-6 to 0-7 with Paul Geaney adding two goals.

The second half was purely academic with Tiernan McCann’s goal merely a mirage as David Clifford converted some incredible frees and Jack Barry returned to add goal number six and complete a humiliation for the visitors.
