Rampage through Adelaide Hills leaves trail of destruction

More than 16 road signs were run over in a weekend vandalism spree.

More than 16 road signs, numerous guide posts and a gate have been destroyed in an apparent motorised vandalism spree in the Adelaide Hills.

The damaged signs were strewn along Gorge Road near Cuddlee Creek.

Two of the signs were run down by a driver crossing over the lane for oncoming traffic.

Hills Fleurieu police are investigating and believe the rampage may have happened around 12:30am on Saturday.

Local resident MJ Ash posted her shots of the damage to the Adelaide Hills Emergency Alert Facebook page and was soon flooded with comments.

Mrs Ash told the ABC she was travelling to the city to go to church on Sunday morning when she saw the destruction.

"It was bad enough having to drive extra carefully [due to the storms] without the added danger of signs being torn out and left on the side of the road," she said.

A stretch of around seven kilometres was targeted, with a variety of signs mowed down.

But those responsible seemed to have met their match on a larger sign they were unable to knock down.

"Our first response was one of disbelief that someone would bother and that it went on so far," Mrs Ash said.

"How on Earth did they do this without being seen?

"It's such a waste of resources to have to fix this."

Mrs Ash said she had also spotted signs and guide posts damaged along Torrens Hill Road and Paracombe Road.

Police are asking that anyone who may have seen the vehicle involved to either call 1800 333 000 or visit the Crime Stoppers website.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure estimates the repair work from the damage to cost $12,000.
