KOZHIKODE: The Central team currently visiting the state to monitor the Covid situation in districts having higher number of Covid cases has directed ramping up testing and opening of more CFLTCs during their meeting with the district authorities here on Sunday.
The two-member team held talks with district collector N Tej Lohit Reddy and officials of the health department. They also assessed the treatment facilities at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital.
The team comprised Dr P Raveendran, former deputy director general of disaster management cell under the Union ministry of health and family welfare, and Dr K Reghu, additional director of National Centre for Disease Control.
The district health authorities explained to the team about the preventive measures, the treatment facilities in the district and the current vaccination status. The district collector told the team about the need to increase the vaccine allotment to the district.
Meanwhile, a group of Congress workers blocked the central team at Chaliyam alleging lack of transparency and lapses in vaccine distribution at the local health centres.
The team members were blocked by the Congress activists for around 10 minutes. The protests were called off after district health authorities promised that they would ensure transparency in vaccine distribution.
