Ramon Planes considering Newcastle United 'option' and Luis Diaz transfer claim

Here is your 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Planes links

Departing Barcelona technical secretary Ramon Planes is 'studying the option' of continuing his career abroad.

That is according to Spanish outlet Marca, who claim St James' Park is one of several 'possible destinations'.

Planes has previously worked as a sporting director at multiple Spanish clubs, and has enjoyed a number of roles with Barcelona after joining in 2018.

Marca reported last week that the 54-year-old was keen to pursue a new project, and his departure was confirmed shortly after the Catalan giants announced the appointment of Xavi.

Diaz interest

Portuguese media claim Liverpool are the main contenders for the signing of FC Porto winger Luis Diaz, but Newcastle United have also been linked.

Record via Sport Witness report the Magpies have 'joined the race' for the 24-year-old who was the joint top scorer in Copa America with Lionel Messi.

Diaz has been in fine form this season, scoring 11 times in all competitions so far, and a fee of around £50m has been suggested for any clubs interested in a deal.

Porto are reportedly confident of securing a club-record sale with the Colombian international, and are also prepared to fend off interest with a preference for a summer transfer.
