Rammstein Belfast gig has been cancelled entirely for 2021

Heavy metal group Rammstein have been forced to cancel their upcoming stadium-sized Belfast gigs, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Their Belfast show was originally due to take place on June 17, 2020 in Boucher Road Playing Fields. It was then rescheduled last year and was due to take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021.

However, Rammstein have confirmed today that the show will not go ahead, nor will it be rescheduled to a later date.

In a statement on the band's website, they said: "Due to the expected ongoing event-bans and restrictions related to COVID-19, Rammstein are unfortunately forced to postpone the planned European Stadium Tour again.

"The band and everyone involved are very disappointed about this.

"Given the lack of planning reliability for holding events of this size, this step is unavoidable.

"The concerts are rescheduled to 2022.

"Unfortunately, some minor changes had to be made and the show in Belfast will be cancelled entirely."

The news comes as hundreds of major gigs and events across Northern Ireland continue to be cancelled or rescheduled, with a return to live music still apparently some ways away.

Rammstein's performance was set to be one of the biggest gigs in Belfast this year.
