Rammstein are to join Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath as headliners for Download 2016. The German band – famed for their spectacular and controversial live shows – will headline the event of Friday June 10.

Iron Maiden and Rammstein have both headlined the festival in the same year before, in 2013, when Iron Maiden played on Saturday and Rammstein on the Sunday. Rammstein caused embarrassment for Download’s promoters over the announcement of their slot that year, when they posted the news of their headline appearance before Download’s official announcement.

The group have not played live since their last world tour finished in August 2013, so their Download slot looks set to be their first UK show since their previous headline slot. The group’s six albums are being reissued on vinyl in the Rammstein XXI box set on 4 December.
