Ramires lifts lid on John Terry's infamous full-kit celebration at 2012 Champions League final

Former Chelsea midfielder Ramires has defended his ex-teammate John Terry for his notorious celebration following the Blues' win in the Champions League final in 2012.

Terry was suspended for the victory over Bayern Munich after being sent off in the semi-final win against Barcelona, but the Blues captain got changed into his full kit for the post-match celebrations after his side came out on top on penalties at the Allianz Arena.

His actions were jumped upon by rival supporters, who mocked him for an apparent attempt to grab the attention despite the fact he did not kick a ball in the final.

But speaking to FourFourTwo Ramires, who was also suspended for the final, said there was a very simple reason for what Terry did.

"All of us changed post-match," Ramires said. "The idea came from the club, because they wanted everyone ready for the team photo."

Ramires also explained his emotions during the game, adding: "I was really nervous! I kicked things. I screamed, I cursed. When Bayern scored, it was past the 80th minute and some fans started to take the p***.

"But when Drogba scored, let's say we had revenge. It was a happiness explosion! Terry stood up on the seat to celebrate.

"When it came to Drogba for the last penalty I was very confident - he was our best taker. We were over the moon at full-time."

Ramires now plays for Brazilian side Palmeiras, but will always be remembered fondly by Blues fans due to his contributions to that Champions League win, with the player scoring a stunning goal in the semi-final win over Barcelona.

Terry, meanwhile, is assistant manager at Aston Villa, and he also defended his celebration in the past, telling Soccer AM: "I don't know why people got so carried away with it. There were four or five other players in the same situation, it wasn't just me!"
