Rami Malek: Bohemian Rhapsody actor spoke with paramedics after falling off stage at Oscars

Rami Malek spoke with paramedics after falling from the stage following his Best Actor Oscar win.

The actor, who scooped the award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, took a tumble after accepting the award and was seen speaking to medical staff.

However, Malek showed no sign of injury while speaking to reporters backstage, saying “anything is possible” following his win.

The 37-year-old saw off competition from Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate), Viggo Mortensen (Green Book) and Christian Bale (Vice).

Earlier in the evening, Olivia Colman won Best Actress for her role in The Favourite while Bohemian Rhapsody collected awards for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Editing. The Best Picture Oscar went to Green Book.

While the film was well received by audiences, it was mauled by critics. “This karaoke-style paean is all style, no soul,” said The Independent‘s critic Clarisse Loughrey.

Mike Myers – who appears in the film – dropped in to introduce the Best Picture nominee alongside Dana Carvey in Wayne’s World reunion. The two actors used the Queen track “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the 1992 comedy.

Elsewhere, Green Book star Mahershala Ali won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor while Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk.
