Filmmaker Ramesh Taurani is a very relieved man today after the High Court, on Thursday, dismissed the appeal filed by State against the acquittal of Taurani in the Gulshan Kumar murder case.
Speaking to ETimes exclusively, Ramesh Taurani shares, "I don’t think there has been anything worse for my family than me being wrongly accused of a murder. I feel exonerated with this judgment. It has been a long and arduous battle - but we never lost our faith in truth and the judiciary system of India - but I am truly grateful for not bearing this difficult burden anymore. Thank you".
It may be recalled here that Ramesh Taurani was accused in the case and had to spend time in jail. Another film personality who had been accused in the case was music composer Nadeem, who has been staying away and is yet to surrender in the case.
Gulshan Kumar, also known as the 'Cassette King', was shot dead in August 1997 outside a temple in Andheri in Mumbai. According to the prosecution, his rivals had paid money to gangster Abu Salem to eliminate him. A division bench of Justices S S Jadhav and N R Borkar also quashed the acquittal of another accused in the case- Abdul Rashid Merchant, brother of Rauf, and convicted him to life imprisonment.
