Following the closure of Covent Garden's Sibarita at the end of last year, chef Victor Garvey is opening a new site in the city – and will, for the first time, offer takeway.
Named after the Spanish word for "hubbub" or "racket", Barullo is set to open in March serving more of Garvey’s much-lauded take on Spanish cuisine, which gained his Soho restaurant Rambla a five star review from Standard critic Fay Maschler.
The 64-cover Aldgate restaurant, which takes over the site formerly occupied by James Cochran EC3, will also run delivery services for hungry City workers.
The menu features Iberian-inspired dishes including roasted and pressed suckling pig with salsa verde, kohlrabi and green apple slaw, as well as Kiko Fried Chicken – or KFC – where sherry lees-brined chicken is coated in roasted corn nuts before frying, then served with an alegria pepper chutney. Garvey will also serve a saffron-infused paella “La Masia” with prawns, confit pork belly and fire-roasted piquillo peppers.
Following the opening, Garvey has plans to open his long-awaited paella stand, Bar Jaleo, in Soho. Aside from Rambla and Sibarita, Garvey is also known for Encant, his now-closed first restaurant that later became a test-kitchen for the chef.
Barullo will open in March 2019 at 19 Bevis Marks, Aldgate, EC3 7JA.
