A group of five men tried to smash their way into the JD store at The Springs shopping centre last night (Monday) by repeatedly reversing a car into the glass doors at the front of the shop.
Police were called to reports of the incident at 10:30pm as the group smashed through the glass in a silver Ford Mondeo and caused damage to the shutters.
However, they couldn't get into the shop on this occasion and fled the scene in a silver estate car before officers arrived.
Although extensive damage was caused to the store, nothing was stolen in the attempted raid.
It is the second time that JD has been targeted by ram raiders. saw thieves reverse a 4x4 vehicle into the store before stealing items of clothing.
Detective Inspector Richard Holmes, of Leeds District CID, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this incident, which is the second time the store has been targeted in recent months, and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed it or who has any information that could assist us.”
