Ram raiders leave vehicle at scene after cash machine attack at petrol station in early hours of morning

Police have cordoned off a petrol station after a ram raid in the early hours of the morning.

A filling station in Station Road in Castle Donington was sealed off by police on Wednesday, September 15.

Scenes of crime officers were seen dusting a van for prints at the scene this morning, Leicestershire Live reports.

Station Road itself stayed open to traffic while police were at the scene.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Detectives from the force's Complex Investigation Team (CIT) are conducting enquiries following the theft of cash from an ATM in Castle Donington this morning.

"At around 12.45am the machine at a petrol station in Station Road was struck by a van and cash was taken.

"The van - a Ford Transit - [was left at the scene] but the suspects left the scene prior to officers arriving. No arrests have been made at this time.

Detective Sergeant Douglas Simpson, from the CIT, said: "Our investigation is very much in its early stages and enquiries into the incident are continuing.

"However, I would ask that anyone with information - or dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident - comes forward. Any details you're able to provide could help."
