Tottenham Hotspur have been told that Southampton will do "everything" to keep Jannik Vestergaard at the club this summer.
Spurs have been linked with a move for the Danish defender after his impressive form for Southampton this season, with the former Borussia Monchengladbach man one of Saints' standout performers in the early stages of the campaign.
His displays have attracted attention from elsewhere, with Spurs among the clubs linked with the 28-year-old, whose contract at Southampton is set to expire in the summer of 2022.
There are similarities between Vestergaard's situation and that of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who moved to Spurs from Southampton last summer as he entered the final year of his contract on the south coast.
But Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has said that the club will do all they can to keep their key men this summer, with the future of striker Danny Ings also in the spotlight amid links with Spurs and Manchester City.
“What can I say? It’s nothing new for our players that do a good job for us this season, that they are on the list for some bigger clubs,” said Hasenhuttl, as reported by Hampshire Live.
“This is normal. This has always been in our history.
“I don’t want to discuss rumours around there,” he continued. “It’s not necessary to discuss it.
“You can be sure that this player has a contract for Southampton and for as long as he has this he is our player.
“We will do everything to keep him here and to protect him for everything,” he added.
