Ralph Hasenhuttl outlines Southampton's stance on permanent Kyle Walker-Peters transfer

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl remains tight-lipped over Kyle Walker-Peters’ future.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been out on loan on the south coast since January and has made five appearances at St Mary’s so far, with four of those coming since the Premier League’s return to action last month.

The 23-year-old has impressed in wins over Watford and Manchester City in the last couple of games, and there has been talk that he could extend his stay at Southampton.

Reports have suggested that Walker-Peters could make the move to the Saints a permanent one as part of a swap deal, with Spurs targeting a move for midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The defender is under contract in north London until 2023, but a move to Southampton could work for both parties as Jose Mourinho looks to land Hojbjerg after missing out in the January window.

Hasenhuttl though isn’t giving anything away at this stage though, although he has been pleased with Walker-Peters’ efforts in recent weeks.

Asked about the defender and whether there had been any development on him staying at St Mary's: Hasenhuttle told reporters: “Yeah, very happy to see this that he helps into our game.

“He took the chance with both hands and showed some good performances, especially on Sunday which was very difficult against this opponent. We had some very good defensive actions and with the ball he had some good moves.

“Yeah he’s in a good way. Must stay hungry and must show up until the end of the season and then we can decide.

“We haven’t decided yet what we do with him, he’s still a player from Tottenham and then we can decide.”
