Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed Southampton will be the market for right-back this summer but remained coy over the possibility of a Kyle Walker-Peters transfer.
The 23-year-old joined the south coast club in January and has been in impressive form since the Premier League's restart and featured in all eight matches, while starting five of the last six during an unbeaten run for the Saints.
It has been a dramatic turnaround for the youngster who started just once for Hasenhuttl's side before the pause in the league.
“I think he was coming here and was a little bit surprised about the intensity of our sessions and the way we want to play," Hasenhuttl said of Walker-Peters' slow start.
“He had time to get adapted to it and he needed this time.
“After lockdown, he looked physically stronger and our work with him also made him more competitive to battle in the duels.
“He made some good games and let’s have a look at what happens in the summer.”
Despite convincing the Austrian coach of his ability there has been no decision made over whether it's enough to warrant a permanent move.
Hasenhuttl said: "He has shown he has some qualities. We are definitely doing something in this position in the summer, that's right, and we have some options," Hasenhuttl said last week.
"Kyle [Walker-Peters] was the one who has helped us in this half year and we haven't decided anything yet if we go with him next season.
However, with Spurs linked to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the defender could perhaps be used as a make-weight in any deal.
