Ralph Hasenhuttl lifts lid on touchline altercation with Man City manager Pep Guardiola

Ralph Hasenhuttl joked that Pep Guardiola has been nicer to him on other occasions after the two had an exchange on the touchline.

The Manchester City manager was even more animated than usual and his frustration boiled over a number of times.

He ran ahead of a ballboy to try to get the game started more quickly from a throw-in, and had a run-in with Southampton coach Craig Fleming when he ran into the away team's technical area to try and do the same.

As he left, Guardiola approached Hasenhuttl who gave as good as he got in response. The Southampton coach attempted to downplay the matter after the game and saw it as a sign of how well his team had played that they had agitated the City coach so much.

"I think we have seen him be nicer than today but I think he was nervous that he could lose this game," said Hasenhuttl.

"You see how much he wants to win the game. He's a fantastic manager and when he feels that he doesn't have solutions - you feel how much he was celebrating when they score - that gives yourself the feeling that you did a lot of things right because when Pep feels he has no solutions then you really have done it well.

"We have always had nice contact and today was not that nice!"
