Ralph Hasenhuttl issues Danny Ings update amid Tottenham transfer rumours

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl says there is no chance that the club will be selling Danny Ings amid rumours of Tottenham interest.

The 28-year-old had a fantastic season in the Premier League, scoring 22 goals to finish just one shy of Jamie Vardy in the Golden Boot race.

It is well known that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add another forward to his team in the transfer window, with Harry Kane the sole out-and-out striker in the squad.

The club are primed to announce deals for both Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid on Friday, but have also been linked with a move for Ings to provide genuine competition for Kane.

However, Saints manager Hasenhuttl says that any rumours of the club contemplating a deal for Ings are without foundation, and they will not be selling him.

"I don't know how often I spoke last season about Ings and how important he is.

"All I want to say is that there is zero interest from Danny to go anywhere. It is not discussable. We will not let one of the best strikers go.

"Any rumours are absolutely nonsense."

Spurs face Southampton this weekend, and while Mourinho was not keen to talk about Ings as a potential target, he did give an analysis on why the striker is so dangerous.

"Ings is a threat. He is a player that scores a lot of goals and every time he plays against us he gives us lots of problems," he said.

"He is a player we have to respect. If they keep the system they normally play it will be Ings and another one, and the other one they have a lot of options because they have four or five different strikers, from Shane Long to all the other younger guys, Che Adams, they have lots of solutions to play the second striker with Danny Ings.

"Yes, he is a very big threat."
