Rally taken out against Govt.’s ’anti-people’ policies

Hundreds of people took part in the ‘’Save the people, save the nation’’ rally organised by the Joint Action Committee of trade unions in the city on Tuesday.

The rally was part of the 2-day strike called by the central unions of various public sector undertakings to condemn the ‘anti-people’’ policies of the Modi Government.

The rally passed through the main thoroughfares of the city and drew attention to the rise in price of essential commodities, growing unemployment on the one hand and the anti-labour policies being implemented by the Government on the other. The trade union activists also said that though the misery of the commoners was increasing, the Government at the Centre was enacting laws that favoured corporate houses who were enriching themselves.

The trade unions also flayed the trend towards privatising various sectors including defence production, railways, oil and natural gas, petroleum, banking, insurancer, power, coal, and airports.

Due to the increasing privatisation drive, social security and job security are a thing of the past while the policies of the Government also encouraged corporatisation of agricultural sector.

The JAC of trade unions also condemned the Government for annulling as many as 29 labour laws making the workforce vulnerable while suppressing the rights of the workers. The procession was joined by AITUC, Insurance Corporation Employees’ Union, and All India Bank Employees’ Association, among others.
