Ralf Rangnick 'will not be pleased' with Manchester United performance in Aston Villa win

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick 'will not be pleased' with the overall performance of his side according to Nigel De Jong.

The former Manchester City midfielder was speaking on beIN SPORTS following United's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute for Rangnick's side but despite this United were left holding on for the rest of the 90 minutes.

De Jong commented: "He will be pleased in a sense but he will not be pleased with the overall performance, I think he is pleased that they got through to the next stage.

"It was a decent first 45 minutes."

When asked whether Steven Gerrard would have reason to be disappointed with the first disallowed goal, the 37-year-old added: "Yeah, of course, because throughout the game they were still in the match.

"They were the better team in the second half because of the pressure they put on Manchester United and they did have the better chances.

"So he (Gerrard) will be annoyed, especially by how the United goal was scored."

Manchester United's victory sets up a fourth round tie at home to Middlesbrough in early February.
