Ralf Rangnick warned he holds no power in Paul Pogba's future at Manchester United

Ralf Rangnick has been told he holds no power in what Paul Pogba wants to do, with the midfielder deciding instead on his Manchester United future.

Speculation is rife as to what Pogba will do over the next few months, with his contract at United set to expire at the end of the season.

Rumours have been abound throughout his time at Old Trafford that he could look to move on for a second time, with Real Madrid among those linked with the 2018 World Cup winner.

Pogba will be free to discuss his future with teams across Europe from next month, and potentially sign any pre-contract agreement before making a move in the summer.

The midfielder is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a thigh injury suffered on international duty, but has already been told he should “never” play for United again if he refuses to sign an extension with the club.

Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn though has warned new interim boss Rangnick he won’t be able to have any say on what Pogba does between now and the end of the season

Speaking to Paddy Power, Winterburn said: “Paul Pogba coming back into the team at Manchester United is completely down to him.

“He either needs to buy into what the new manager is trying to do, or he needs to look for a move away from the club. Paul Pogba is a quality player and is someone who wants to be involved weekly, and if he’s not doing that, he won’t be happy.

“Players nowadays have so much power in football. They are all mega rich and can decide themselves on when they want to move to a new team.

“If Pogba likes the style of football that Ralf Rangnick is bringing into Manchester United, then I’m sure he’ll get his head down and work hard for the team, but if not, then he’ll look to move.

“As Pogba is a quality player, I have no doubt that he won’t be short on offers from other clubs fighting for his signature.”
