Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has urged Marcus Rashford to show more “killer instinct” after being left frustrated by his first half performance against Arsenal.
Rashford was once again given the nod by Michael Carrick as the United coach took charge of his final game before Ralf Rangnick officially begins his reign.
The German was in the crowd after being handed his work visa, which will allow him to begin working at Old Trafford following the clash with the Gunners.
And having been on a watching brief to begin with, he’ll have been paying close attention what he will need to work on with his new players – and Rashford may well feature heavily.
The England forward cut a frustrated figure during the opening 45 minutes against the Gunners, and his ineffectiveness was picked up on by Evra, who was watching the game as part of Amazon Prime Video’s coverage.
Asked what he wanted to see from United at half-time, Evra responded: “I want a player like Marcus Rashford playing more forward. He’s starting to frustrate a lot of players.
“You know we’re talking about Rangnick and saying he’s coming here to show players, I think the first one he’ll have to go at is Marcus Rashford.
“With the pace he’s got, everything, the ability he’s got, I don’t understand why he doesn’t have that killer instinct and just go for the player one versus one.”
It has proven to be a frustrating season for Rashford so far, with the United forward having scored twice and provided one assist in seven appearances in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old has only featured in one win in the league so far, and his current form will be a concern for Rangnick as he steps into the fold.
