Ralf Rangnick targets Atletico Madrid star as Manchester United plot salvation transfer mission

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.

The Red Devils plot a managerial masterplan in a bid to fend off interest from Europe's elite for Paul Pogba, as Ralf Rangnick identifies Atletico Madrid star as his first summer signing.

Meanwhile, United have been handed a boost towards signing a highly sought-after Napoli midfielder following a failed January bid from a Premier League rival.

Vultures circle United's last-ditch effort to salvage £89m deal

According to ESPN, Manchester United has asked wantaway players to delay their future decisions at the club until a new manager has been appointed.

The report claims that Paul Pogba, who sees his contract at Old Trafford expire at the end of the season, said players are seeking a move away.

ESPN add that the Red Devils are hoping that their next choice of boss will persuade the 28-year-old to stay put as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain all watch on waiting to pounce.

Our view: Pogba can be the best player on the pitch whenever he wants to be. If he sustained the levels he's capable of for 40 to 50 games a season; then it'd be hard to argue against him being the best midfielder in the world.

However, he only performs at the levels he's capable of for 4 to 5 games a season and whenever he pulls on a France shirt.

United should have solved this dilemma about a month or two ago because the Red Devils now face losing Pogba for free.

Red Devils contact Red Devil

United have joined Chelsea and Barcelona in the race to join Atletico Madrid wide-man Yannick Carrasco, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The report claims that the three sides have already contacted the 28-year-old's infamous representative, Pini Zahavi, over a potential move in the summer.

Carrasco, valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, has featured 20 times for the La Liga champions this season, directly contributing towards seven goals.

Fichajes add that Tottenham and Newcastle attempted to lure the Belgium international to the Premier League in January but failed.

Our view: Carrasco would be an excellent addition to any side in Europe - if United have the chance to bring him in, do so.

The Belgian has often featured as a left wing-back in recent times, hinting at a new formation. However, naturally being a left-winger, it could be argued that his positional transition to because of his tireless work rate, pressing and reliability to make the runs forward and back.

Newcastle failed £33m deadline day swoop for United target

United target Fabian Ruiz was subject to a failed £33m bid from Newcastle United in January, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has less than 18 months left on his contract with Napoli, has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Corriere dello Sport report that Real Madrid and Barcelona are also after the Spain international, handing United tough competition should the Red Devils look to wrap up a cut-price deal in the coming transfer windows.

Our view: While this is a boost for United ahead of the summer, I don't think Ruiz is necessarily what United need , more so what they want .

Great player, but I might need some more convincing as to whether he's that guy to have a significant impact upon arrival.

Although, the long list of interest does speak for itself...
