Ralf Rangnick 'targets' Amadou Haidara as first Manchester United signing and more transfer rumours

Ralf Rangnick may only be entering the fray as Manchester United manager on an interim basis but he already has an eye on midfield reinforcements.

That is according to recent reports, which claim Rangnick is looking to ransack his former club RB Leipzig and prise Amadou Haidara — a player he brought to Germany in 2019 — away from the Bundesliga side.

The Mali international is already an admirer of United as well, expressing his desire to play at Old Trafford after trying to "watch as many games as possible."

He said: "I like United very much and watch as many games as possible. I dream of playing there," he told Bild in 2019.

The Mirror says that there is a £33m release clause in his contract at Leipzig, which reportedly put Newcastle United off a transfer for him in the summer.

Now 23, Haidara is well known to Rangnick after he was brought in to replace the departing Naby Keita who joined Liverpool in 2019.

Meanwhile, there has reportedly been another twist in the Paul Pogba saga at United.

The Frenchman's contract is set to expire in the summer and can negotiate with foreign clubs in January, but Marca say Real Madrid have pulled out of the race.

It comes after Carlo Ancelotti has allegedly decided to focus on other positions at the Santiago Bernabeu.

As for Pogba, Juventus and PSG have previously been interested in his services but neither have expressed their intent with just over a month until pre-contract agreement talks can get underway.

He is currently out with the thigh injury that he suffered on international duty with France.
