Ralf Rangnick spotted with John Murtough at Old Trafford during Manchester United vs Arsenal

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been spotted alongside John Murtough at Old Trafford - as Manchester United take on Premier League rivals Arsenal.

After stepping into the breach to replace sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, caretaker manager Michael Carrick is set to take charge for the third and final time before handing over to Rangnick.

It's been a drawn-out process for the innovative German as he was made to wait for a work permit.

However, that has now been rubber-stamped and Rangnick - who is credited as a driving force behind modern day German coaching and as an inspiration to Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel - was able to sit down at Old Trafford in an unofficial capacity for the first time.

The former Schalke and RB Leipzig manager has been joined at the United game by football director Murtough.

After grabbing victory over Villarreal and a creditable draw vs Chelsea in each of his first two games, Carrick made three changes to his line-up for the Arsenal showdown - with Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo all coming in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic.

Do you think Rangnick will succeed at United? Have your say in the comments section below.

But will they do enough to impress their new coach watching on from the stands?

Despite coming under huge pressure and losing his place at the United helm, former manager Solskjaer was issued with support before kick-off when match-goers unfurled a banner for the Norwegian at Old Trafford.
